BOWTIE ANTENNAS
FOUR BAY BOWTIE
The videos below are still relevant as a construction guide just use the new dimensions. Go to the New BOWTIE Page then come back here for building details.
INSULATORS & WISKERS
For insulators I use 3/4" thick x 2 1/2" wide x 8 ft long PVC lumber. You can get it at most big home stores and lumber yards, its usually called PVC trim material for windows and doors and not expensive. I cut 1 inch pieces from the board for a 1" x 3/4" x 2 1/2" insulator.
Phase Line
All this makes a very nice joint.
I don't solder antenna wire in Florida. The weather here often creates flying debris, tree branches, yard stuff, cars etc. This way I can easily replace damaged parts, plus, it's a lot neater.
When all the parts are made and ready, you need to drill the backbone. Select a bit smaller than the screw you intend to use and drill through the top of the aluminum. Grab your screwdriver and attach the insulators to the backbone.
Mount the phase lines and the bows and you're done. Don't forget the Balun.
Then GROUND IT when you install it.
Reflector
You can follow the link and watch me make a reflector that will work well.
Or, you can create a reflector with the materials you have at hand and attach it to your bowtie. Set the reflector back 4.5", you can adjust that space if needed.
